Seaglass Lounge & Restaurant
4 Oceanfront North
Salisbury, MA 01952

Situated: Location, location, location…..The restaurant sits directly on the sand of the Atlantic Ocean-boasting spectacular 360′ views.
Type of Food: American fare and seafood……no fried foods are served. The atmosphere was open and the crowd varied. The lounge was filled with locals and the restaurant seemed to draw newcomers looking for an upscale place to dine in this sleepy seaside town.
What Impressed Me: I heard no loud conversations or clinging glasses. It surprised me because the ceilings are so high. They did a great job with sound proofing. An excellent selection of old jazz played in the background.
We started with a delicious array of fresh seafood as an appetizer …. Calamari, lobster, crab, shrimp, oysters and clams in the shell all served over ice with a tangy sauce.
It was quite good.
The bread was fresh, warm, served with a side of butter with a hint of cinnamon. So far so good.
The server was pleasant and attentive with a quick wit. She could have lost all the eye makeup, let’s just say she was a little overdone ( just like my scallops). I ordered them grilled and they came back very overcooked. The result was a tough and dry dish. I did not eat them.
My dinner mates ordered a chicken dish and tenderloin steak…..the chicken was “tasty”. The tenderloin, “nothing special”. I must add here that the restaurant buys all of its vegetables from local farms, fresh daily. As a result the vegetables added a much needed lift to another wise bland meal.
The manager did the right thing and took the scallops off the bill…….we ordered a dessert of fresh berries in a chocolate mousse with three spoons. This made me forget all about the bad scallops. It was just what the doctor ordered.
I never saw the bill because (lucky for me) one of my dinner partners grabbed it and paid. Having said that, the prices are reasonable.
Despite my disappointment with the scallops, I am giving this restaurant 8 anchors for the atmosphere, doing the right thing, the vegetables, drinks and certainly the view.

The following tip comes from fellow boater, Jonathan B…He swears this is the best corn he has ever had! He is a wicked smart guy and I trust him implicitly.
Buy some good quality ears of corn. Leave the husks on them and place
them in a mesh bag with some weight in it (corn will float otherwise).
Tie the bag over the side, about 5 feet down, in salt water. Leave it
there for anywhere from 4-8 hours. Heat up the grill and toss them on it
with the husks on. Cook them with the grill really hot until the husks
are crispy. Remove the husks (be careful – very hot), then eat. Best
corn on the cob you will ever have!

Stripers Grille & Inn
175 Bridge Rd.
Salisbury, Ma. 01952
Situated: The restaurant is across the Merrimac River from busy Newburyport, Ma. There is no public dock however; you could try to get a transient slip at Dawn or Bridge marina along the river.
Type of food: The food is the typical seafood fare and served in a Holiday Inn like atmosphere. The crowd was mixed and seemed familiar with the spot. I think the place attracts mostly locals.
There were four of us in our party. We started with fried clam appetizers, potato skins and shrimp cocktail.
Pictures can be deceiving as was the case with the clams. The first clam was quite tasty, but it must have been a mistake that it ended up in that batch. They tasted increasingly more “dirty” with each bite. The shrimp were large but dry, not the crisp ones that pop in your mouth. And, the potato skins were nothing but ordinary. Not a very good start.
The server was a spitting image of Tatiana Del Toro from American Idol. She barely knew we were there because she was so clueless. The service was beyond sloppy and slow. We waited for water, drinks, the appetizers to be cleared, the bill to be paid and more. At least she didn’t sing to us!
The entrees: Heart Healthy Haddock was “ disgusting”, the Seared Salmon was “not to bad except for the bones”. Dave ate all of his Baked Scallops but we can’t go by him, he will eat anything. My lobster roll was actually quite good. I’d guess there was 11/2 lbs of meat in it and was not saturated in mayonnaise.
Price: The bill came to $138.00 for the four entrees, 2 coronas, 2 ketel ones, 3 cokes and the appetizers. A hefty bill for inadequate service and mediocre food .
Ratings are 1-10 anchors with 10 being the best. I would throttle down and cruise by this eatery without looking back…………….Score: 2

The Black Cow
54 R Merrimac St.
Newburyport, Ma.
Situated: The restaurant is located on the banks of the Merrimac River in Newburyport, Ma. There is a public dock for easy boat access.
Type of food: The food is American fare served in a bright, rustic atmosphere with a mostly over 30 yuppie crowd. A walkway along the river makes this spot perfect for people watching.
Dinner starts at 5pm. We got there early (4:30) so, we had to order from the lunch menu. We started with a Caesar salad.
The lettuce was fresh and crisp, nice tangy dressing and fresh croutons. My lunch partner thought the dressing was a little fishy however, I didn’t.

The steak tips were marinated and cooked to my specifications, medium. The portions are large and the meat was tender and juicy. They were served with sweet potato fries and a delicious honey mustard sauce. The fries alone are worth the trip.
The server was young, personable and attentive.
Price: The bill was a little under $70.00 for the salad, 2 full sized entrees, two glasses of wine and an iced tea.
